Apple Who? Android Market Share Reaches 79%

They say that what comes up must go down, and it appears that Apple; raved about by consumers and techies alike, is losing market share.

In the second quarter of 2013, Apple’s market share declined  to 13%. Pretty low for the “world’s most popular smartphone”.

Android’s market share jumped to 79.3% in the same quarter, up 10% from 2012. Microsoft’s Windows Phone saw a slight increase, with a 3.7% market share compared to 3.1% last year.

Despite changing their name and releasing a series of sleeker new smartphones, Blackberry continues to struggle with a 3% market share in 2013, down from 5% a year before. See chart below for more details:

Do you think this news about Android’s growing market share will propel Apple to create an even greater phone, or *gasp* a different kind of phone?!
