Facebook Buys Instagram, Expands Empire

Did you hear the news? Facebook has bought cool-vintage-photo-filter app Instagram for $1 billion. Full story here.

According to the previous rumors, Facebook had been investigating creating their own Instagram-copy. Instead of trying to copy the master, they bought it.

In my humble opinion, eliminating a competitor by making them an ally was a good move on Facebook’s part. Instagram will always have a vintage-y charm that cannot be replaced by just any photo app. Some might argue that $1 billion is a lot of money for a free app that shows no signs of making any tangible revenue, but I say congrats Facebook on spreading your wings and acquiring the hippest photo-filter-app since…ever.
